Muscle atrophy is the loss of muscle tissue, resulting in a decrease in muscle mass.
The muscle decreases in size, which in turn leads to a decrease in strength and mobility.
Muscle atrophy can occur for multiple reasons, such as immobility, malnutrition or strokes
Muscle atrophy occurs in stroke as nerve damage can cause a lack of use of the muscle, and therefore muscle wastage.
